MBLAQ is an acronym for Music Boys Live in Absolute Quality. MBLAQ is a South Korean quintet boy group under the Korean pop, R&B singer, producer and actor Rain from his label J.Tune Entertainment named as the J.Tune Camp. The five members of the group includes Yang Seung Ho as the leader, G.O or Jung Byung Hee as their main vocalist, Joon or Lee Chang Sun as a vocalist, Thunder/Cheon Doong or Park Snag Hyun as a vocalist and rapper, and the last one is Mir or Bang Cheol Yong as one of their rapper. The group had debuted on October 9, 2009 during the Rain’s Legend of Rainism Concert.
On October 14, 2009, MBLAQ had released their debut single album entitled, Just BLAQ that had topped various music charts both online and offline in South Korea. After that, the group had released their second album, Y on May 19, 2010 and on the 10th of January, 2011 the group had released their first studio album, BLAQ style.
After being trained for two years, MBLAQ was first announced on September 21, 2009 by means of an appearance in Nylon Magazine. They had performed various songs from their produced EP, Just BLAQ which gains a lot of praises and many spectators and fans considering them the next DBSK. The group had released teasers for their debut song, “Oh Yeah” on 12th of October including the music video that was being released two days later. With the same day of released to the music video, the album was also released that tops various charts around South Korea.
In the early weeks of December, MBLAQ had officially graduated in Japan which follows their performance in Rain’s fan meeting that eventually released documentaries that was all produced from their stay in Japan. Later on that month, the group had done different promotions for their follow up track, “G.O.O.D Luv” which has two music videos, an unofficial MV that was released in prior to the official MV that was released on the 10th of December, 2009.
MBLAQ initially debuted as group that is more focused on dance and on the pop music, ever since then, the group was seen to have connected with different genres. Oh Yeah and Y were dance, My Dream, Last Luv and Rust are all ballad tracks, the Bang Bang Bang is rock and pop, Cry is an R&B track and Stay is a kind of track which infused with hip hop, electronic and rock.
With Rain being the group’s mentor and major inspiration, he wrote, composed, produced and choreographed a few tracks for the MBLAQ. This included Oh yeah, G.O.O.D Luv, Y, Cry and Stay. For the release of Just BLAQ and Y, the group had focused heavily on their performance with a strong choreography. With BLAQ style, the group had decided to focus more on the music and melody than the dance choreography. Cheon Doong was also featured in a CF with the Wonder Girls for Mori Stylish Coffee.
